Independent Study: Painting

This body of work explores a hybrid visual language that merges the refined conventions of South Asian miniature painting with the emotional intensity of early German Expressionism. Inspired by the neo-miniaturist discourse around artists such as Imran Qureshi and Shahzia Sikander, the paintings translate traditional techniques—layered planes, flattened space, intricate surface work—into larger, more gestural compositions. Figures appear fragmented and theatrical, rendered with heightened color and tactile brushwork that evoke both intimacy and distortion.
